Prison Ministry

What is Ministry of Help? Who needs help? What is the need? Where is the help coming from?

Not until we get it right, we will continue to miss the point.

David said in Psalm 121:1-2  I lift up my eyes to the hills where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

My heart and sense of reasoning was illuminated during an online discussion with pastor Biola Orimoloye, a friend and popular online teacher of the word, I decided to pen my perspective on this subject as the Holy Spirit opened my heart.

The ministry of help begun from God who helped to meet the need of the world, and that help from God to meet the needs of the world began from giving. Help is about meeting the needs of the weak from the strong. For God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son. The world is in need and the only help God could render is by parting with the only thing he has.  Giving is an expression of love, giving the only thing you have. So, ministry of help was orchestrated by God. God is the founder of the ministry of help. David came to the point of realization in the time of need, he said where does my help come from? He gave answer to his searching question “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth” In psalm 20:1-2 David said in his prayer “May the Lord answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion. When do we need help? When we are in distress.

God helped the world at the point of death by giving his only begotten son, the only means “I have no other alternative for salvation than this only son” You may contend it, it doesn’t change the word”. Jesus was given to the world as help from God. In other to continue to meet the need of the world Jesus gave the gift to men for two reasons. 1 to make profit. 2. To perfect the saints.

1Cor12: 7  But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

Easy English translation said it this way: In each one of us, God shows in certain ways that his Spirit is present in us. He gives certain gifts to each of us so that we can help each other

I hope everyone that is given a gift will come to this understanding that the purpose of this gift is to help each other. Not everyone of us will become an entrepreneur, not everyone of us will become a millionaire. Some know how to make money but instead of them to use the money to help others they store it in the bank.

Perfecting the saints.

Easy English.11  It was Christ who gave some of his people the gift to be special workers and leaders on his behalf. He gave to some people the gift to speak messages from him. He gave to some people the gift to bring other people to himself. He gave to some people the gift to be pastors (leaders who help Christ’s people to follow him) and teachers.

Verse 12  He gave all these gifts to prepare God’s people, so that they could work together as his servants. So then, as a result, Christ’s body would grow and it would become stronger.

Can you see now that the ministry of Help begins from God by giving Jesus to the world. For the help to continue Jesus gave these five-fold ministry to build the Church. The category of these workers that led people astray today are the people who claimed to be speaking from God. He gave to some people the gift to speak messages from him. So many people have been misled today by those who claimed to be prophet but without God.

Paul explained on this ministry of help further in the book of Roman 12:6-8

6  We have different gifts based on the grace that was given to us. So if your gift is prophecy, use your gift in proportion to your faith. 7  If your gift is serving, devote yourself to serving others. If it is teaching, devote yourself to teaching others. 8  If it is encouraging, devote yourself to encouraging others. If it is sharing, share generously. If it is leading, lead enthusiastically. If it is helping, help cheerfully.

I know some people; they are kingdom financial. They can give to their detriment.

Reverse is the case today. Most of these people who are not even called would want to be addressed as a prophet and they cannot see anything. They want to be called Apostle without the mandate of Apostolic, they want to be called Bishop without humility to serve. They have used all these title to rob and enslave people. Ministry of help is about giving. It could be giving of spiritual gift or material gift.

There are some people, they are gifted in ministry of help. They have bought cars for men of God, built houses for men of God. The ministry becomes flourished because of ministry of help. Not until we see our fellow human being as a means of rendering help to God, we will not be fulfilling the help ministry according to God.

Ministry of help will become meaningful when we see ourselves as the extension of God’s arm to meet the needs of his image who is in need. God delegated the authority on us to help those who are weak. The widow, the motherless, the orphan, the prisoners, those in debt, those who are sick, those who are poor. James 1:27 says Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Jesus wants us to be active in the Ministry of help. Matt 25:35-40. Those who are hungry, those who are thirsty, the stranger, those without good clothes, those who are sick, those in the prison.

Very interesting, you will find all the categories of these people in the prison. You will find those who are hungry for the word of God, that is the reason we need the Bible, you will see those who are thirsty for the righteousness, that is the reason for the preachers and teachers, you will find those who are naked, that is the reason they will need cloths, you will find those who are sick, that is why we carried out medical outreach and food outreach, you will see those who are wrongfully detained or sentenced to death, that is why Centre for Justice Mercy and Reconciliation CJMR will always engage in research and advocacy for those who are wrongly sentenced to death or illegal detained.

We see ourselves as an agents of change that brings salvation to those who are hopeless and helpless.

The world is full of problem; God is depending on us to help ourselves. Ministry of Help is about partnering with God to meet the needs of others. Thank you for reading.
